For some people, the thought of using colour in therapy may seem like hocus pocus, but the art of colour and light therapy dates back centuries to the Romans and Greeks, who used the positive and healing effects of colour.
We all know how being surrounded by colours we like canmake us happier, whether it's by wearing those colours or decorating our house in the colours we like, but have youever thought why you like a particular colour?
Have you ever been: RED with anger? Feeling BLUE GREEN with envy A YELLOWbelly | |
These sayings are commonplace but where do they come from? They relate to the colour of the chakra where the different emotions are stored, and if not released can cause an imbalance of energy within the body.
RED - (Root chakra) desire to survive and destroy. Relates to structure and inflammation.
ORANGE (Sacral chakra) joy, creativity, personal power and energy. Relates to lower digestive organs and reproductive organs.
YELLOW (Solar plexus) issues of self-worth, confidence, power outside ourselves. Relates to pancreas.
GREEN (heart chakra) giving and receiving love, relates to the thymus gland, heart and lungs.
TURQUOISE / BLUE (Throat chakra) Ability to communicate, truth, willpower, Relates to the thyroid gland, immune system, throat.
INDIGO (Third eye chakra) Imagination, inspiration, intuition and wisdom, relates to the pituitary gland.
Colour exists in the form of oscillating light waves, which now, through our technology, can be broken down and measured. We all know at some level which vibration / colour we need for balance, or in some cases which vibration / colour we feel comfortable with, and are drawn to that colour.

The human aura is the energy field that surrounds our body, made up of electro-magnetic energy, a pulsating filed of information and energy which expands far beyond the limitations of our physical body. Just as each physical body is unique, so everyone's aura is individual to them, it is not separate from the physical body, but interconnected and together with the physical body, forms who we are.
Our energy body ‘vibrates’ at different frequencies, and these frequencies can be measured in terms of colour on the visible spectrum. From 3800A for violet to 7600A for red. Just beyond the red end of the visible spectrum are infrared rays, and beyond the violet at the other end of the spectrum are ultraviolet rays, followed by x-rays .
A person whose energy vibrates in the red spectrum, will be very practical and determined, organised and show qualities of leadership. On the opposite end of the scale, a person whose energy vibrates at violet, will usually be less practical, and be full of inspirational ideas, sensitive and intuitive. Ideally, we need qualities of all the vibrations, which is what we work with when our energy is completely balanced.

Light is vital to life, and can be broken down into the colours of the spectrum. The colours in our aura show which energies we are expressing in our lives, the colours in our aura are influenced heavily by our thoughts, feelings and beliefs. The human energy system receives energy through the ‘chakras’ or energy centres in the body. Each of the 7 main chakra’s correspond to one of the 7 major glands in the physical body. Each of the 7 main chakra’s vibrate at the same energetic frequency as one of the 7 colours of the spectrum.
Knowing what colour your Aura is, and being able to see which chakra’s and colours your energy is being expressed to the world through, can give us insight into our lives, show where blockages of energy lie and act as a starting point to balancing our life and health.
